Back to Basics (Strathmore Online Workshop -- March 2014)

WIP image from a bonus video we shot at the Fort Worth Botanical Garden last week

Hi everyone!

As you may recall, I usually spend the winter months re-honing my drawing and painting skills in preparation for the New Year's art adventures (both near and far afield.)

This year Strathmore Artist Papers has invited me to share that experience with others and I have happily agreed to teach a four-lesson online workshop for them in March. My film crew and I are already busy shooting the lesson videos (and several hours of "bonus" video that I think you may enjoy.)

some (but not all) of the papers I'll be working with

We have a number of papers we'll be working with and an extensive range of media and techniques to explore. (And, best of all, registration is FREE!) So, I hope to see you there and, please, feel free to bring a few friends.

Oh, and watch for a series of "behind the scene" and "making of" articles here, too, as we lead up to the beginning of the workshop. It should be fun!

  1. Thank you for the heads-up on this. I got the notice from Strathmore and being able to follow your "lead-up-to-the-class" posts will be fun and helpful, thank you!

    1. You're most welcome Susie. And, please, feel free to "take ownership" of the lead-up (ideally, we're all going to be in this together.) I'd like to encourage participants to leave feedback on the "behind-the-scenes" and "making of" articles.

In the meantime, I'd like to wish everyone the Very Merriest of Holiday Seasons!

  2. I'm curious, I see you prefer Toned Gray paper. I am wondering why? I like to work on the tan, but I've not ever tried Gray. So, what am I missing? I am really looking forward to learning more about papers and the how to best use them. I may be getting ahead of the class, I hope not. If, it isn't appropriate to answer this question right now.....I can wait. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

    1. I guess I have been using the Gray a bit recently but that's mainly because it was the first of the new Strathmore Softbound journals I received leading up to a workshop I did earlier this fall. I can also guarantee that I'll be doing some work with the Tan (and a different medium or two) for one of the lesson videos. (And, FYI, all paper, media, and technical questions are most definitely welcome.)

    1. Thank you Kay. We've been very fortunate to have lots of sunny weather of late. So, my film crew and I have been quite busy. We've already shot Parts 1 & 2 of the a "bonus" video, and I've just completed the illustrated information sheet, for Lesson 1. Watch for the first "behind the scenes" article soon.
